Recycling at home: it's as easy as 1, 2, 3

Italy: Recycling at home will become a reality sooner than people think, according to Italian business Frieco. Its compact recycling station called Frieco Home is roughly the size of a dishwasher can reduce any type of inorganic waste by up to 95%, yielding only fine flakes. And this in only a few seconds.

Frieco’s patented in-home recycling station has an initial capacity of 30 litres (approximately 250 aluminium cans or 200 plastic bottles) and recycles materials at the touch of a button. One only needs to open the door and insert the materials.

Frieco Home is equipped with a 1200 W engine as well as powerful cutting blades arranged on a rotor. Therefore, the unit is a very efficient and convenient solution for aluminium cans and plastic bottles, but also glass jars.

This means the days of ‘squashing’ packaging are pretty much over, and no more struggling with bulky trash bags, Frieco says. The do-it-yourself recycling machine proves that ‘recycling is easy’ and that the circular economy is certainly within reach, the Italian company stresses.

‘Noise and vibration are strictly reduced thanks to the presence of soundproof panels and special pins to guarantee stability,’ Frieco points out. Production of the recycling station will start this summer. To support large scale production, Frieco has set up a crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter.

The innovative machine is the result of an R&D project that started in 2014.
