Fresh start for Malaysian aluminium smelter

Malaysia: One of Singapore’s largest aluminium, copper and stainless steel scrap traders has restarted its light metal smelting plant in Malaysia.

According to Advance SCT, the smelter will produce between 200 and 400 tonnes of aluminium ingot per month during 2011.

The company also reports that it has secured a contract to supply at least 1000 tonnes a month of first-grade copper scrap to China-based Qingyuan Shengli Copper Material Co. Ltd. ‘At today’s price of copper, the contract could potentially add more than 150 million Singapore dollars (US$ 115 million) to the company’s revenue in 2011,’ it states.
