Other topics to be covered during the event include: rules relating to battery production and producer liability; design for recycling; technology and market trends; new approaches to ’multi-lifecycle engineering’; the impact of recent legislation on batteries and Waste Electrical & Electronics Equipment (WEEE); an update on the EU’€™s WEEE, RoHS and battery directives; a review of practical industry concerns; separation of batteries from WEEE; collection and recycling of spent rechargeable batteries; NiCd, NiMH and lead battery applications and market data; country reports relating to battery recycling including national laws and new regulations regarding collection, recycling and financing; best available technologies and processes for the recycling of primary and secondary cells; financing and collection systems; data on waste streams; economic principles and financing systems for the whole recycling loop; take-back of used batteries by retailers, importers and OEMs; market and recycling challenges for new technologies; and recycling of lithium batteries.
The congress is being organised by Switzerland-based ICM in conjunction with electronics and electrical industry associations, as well as battery collection and recycling organisations in Europe, Japan and the U.S. All papers will be presented in English.
