Recycling facility first for Bangalore
Said to provide a decentralised and market-based solution by emphasising the importance of ‘zero waste’ management, the facility has been designed to handle dry recyclables such as paper, plastics, glass, metals and organic materials like garden leaves. On a daily basis, member companies will supply recyclable materials for sorting into the various streams, which will then be sent to factories for recycling. Leaf and garden litter will be converted into compost.
The Waste Wise Trust believes such a venture can offer a significant socio-economic benefit to the waste-picking community, especially if carefully decentralised.
