Nickel: a game of speculation

Improved demand from the mills has helped to inject some positive movement into stainless steel scrap prices over recent weeks. Prices for the 304 grade have climbed from US$ 1360-1410 per tonne to US$ 1400-1450 while 316 values have extended from US$ 1880-1930 to US$ 1930-1980. Chrome scrap followed this upward trend, with 409 prices picking up from US$ 350-390 to US$ 410-450 per tonne and the 430 grade from US$ 460-500 to US$ 510-550.
