ISRI to honour recycling industry veterans

United States: 'There is no doubt that future recipients of this award will have the tireless efforts of these two gentlemen to thank,' says Robin Wiener, president of the US Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), in light of the announcement that the 2017 ISRI Lifetime Achievement Awards will go to Dr Herschel Cutler and Crawford Carpenter.

The retired ISRI executives are being honoured for their 'significant contributions and commitment' to the recycling industry and to ISRI. 'They have helped shape the industry for generations to come,' stresses Wiener.

Dr Herschel Cutler had a 33-year career with ISRI and with one of its predecessor associations. During his tenure, Cutler led the association and the industry in 'many battles' against export controls, railroad freight rate problems, publicly-subsidised recycling programmes and Superfund, among other challenges.

Crawford Carpenter has had a 'long and dedicated' career in the paper recycling industry, exhibiting 'a passionate commitment' to promoting it to the next generation of leaders. Through his service on the ISRI board of directors, Carpenter has been an advocate for paper recycling and has guided the association to 'new levels of industry leadership'.

The awards will be presented during this year's ISRI convention and exposition, to be held on April 22-27 in New Orleans.
