System for recovering WEEE and ASR plastics

German company hamos GmbH Recycling- und Separationstechnik has developed a complete system for the recovery of high-grade pure plastics from mixed plastics that are traditionally difficult to separate, including clean ABS, polystyrene (PS) and polypropylene (PP) fractions.

The hamos KRS recycling system secures pure plastics from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) or pre-treated automotive shredder residue (ASR) fractions. The equipment runs entirely automatically and has been designed for a three-shift operation.

Having been freed of large pieces of metal, the mixed plastics are classified and the light fraction is separated out. In a subsequent wet separation stage, the different fractions are then sorted from each other according to their specific weight. The ABS-PS and PE-PP concentrates recovered in this way are then mechanically and thermally dried.

Remaining metals and other conductive contamination - such as rubber and wood - are then separated using hamos KWS series electrostatic separators in a subsequent dry separation stage. Downstream hamos EKS electrostatic separators convert the ABS-PS or PE-PP mixtures into clean, single fractions.

Further separation of rubber and elastomer particles by means of a hamos RSS series separator further increases the purity of the end product. If required, even more specific light coloured plastics fractions can be produced through the use of optoelectronic sorting equipment.
