Ahlstrom unveils paper recycling initiative

Finland – Finland-based high-performance materials company Ahlstrom is specifically targeting the recycling of silicone-coated paper release liners used by the pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) label industry.

Ahlstrom intends to collect the coated paper – better known as glassine – at the end-of-life phase to convert it into specialty paper at its facility in Osnabrück, Germany. For a minimum quantity of two tonnes per load, the material will be taken off retailers’€™ hands in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands at no cost.

Stating that the initiative is designed to help divert paper liner waste from landfill or incineration, Ahlstrom’€™s Executive Vice President Daniele Borlatto adds: ‘€˜We trust this programme will offer PSA label end-users an opportunity to increase their overall environmental performance as such programmes are able to reinforce the position of paper as a uniquely sustainable material for the PSA industry.’€™
