Producer of ‘world’s largest’ mobile shredder turns 20

Germany – With only three employees, a small production run and ‘a lot of commitment’, it all started on February 15 1996 for Hammel Recyclingtechnik. Twenty years later, the company headquartered at Bad Salzungen in Germany has developed into a global supplier of shredder technology.

Hammel claims its success has been based primarily on hard work and dedication to the creation of modern, sophisticated recycling solutions. ‘‘We offer innovative solutions and machinery tailored to individual customer requirements, and here the extensive know-how from all technical disciplines and years of experience are applied,’ it states.

The ‘original’ Hammel shredders are still being produced at the facility in Bad Salzungen. Based on the first prototypes of that time, a powerful product range has been developed over the past 20 years that meets requirements for shredding technology in the fields of wood, waste and metal. ‘Numerous innovations’ have also been seen in recent years.

In 2012, Hammel launched what it claims to be ‘the world’s largest mobile shredder’: the Hammel primary shredder VB 1500 DK, which is designed to handle car bodies, mega tyres and other bulky material. The Hammel VB 750 Limited Edition – a pre-shredder equipped with ‘an outstanding’ 480 HP engine – was launched just one year later.

Other new products introduced in recent years include the Hammel VB 450 DK – Duo primary shredder while innovations have also been made in the areas of secondary shredding and screening/sorting technology.
